I was so excited to treat myself to a Silhouette Cameo machine for Christmas! It has become instrumental in helping me achieve one of my goals for 2014 (or maybe my goal was realized as a result of getting the Cameo – who cares ). I couldn’t wait to get it out and play with it, but I have to admit I got myself completely overwhelmed before it arrived (it took weeks to get it due to the backlog of orders from the Black Friday sale). I started signing up for Facebook groups that gives tips, reading blogs, watching YouTube videos…pretty much anything except actually getting the machine out of the box and just using it and experimenting. Then I saw this blog post for making Quick and Easy Thank You Cards and I knew I had found the perfect first project.
My first test cut proved to me how intricate and smooth the cuts would be. But I also knew that I needed to try something even simpler for making my first cards. Here is what I ended up with.
And with that one cut out, I used the inverse/leftovers and made this second card.
Key lessons I learned during this first project:
- They aren’t kidding when they say the cutting mat is really sticky at first. It took some work to get the paper off the mat.
- Cover up the sticky cutting mat when you’re done and don’t lay anything on it.
Not too bad for a first project, huh?
