I’ve Been Keeping a Secret

I’ve been keeping a secret for a few weeks…but I’m too excited not to share it now!

As some of you may know, this blog was started to share my journey and quest to simplify our lives by bringing in a little bit of “country”. Over the past year, we’ve been seriously talking about buying land. Fully moving to the country, getting acreage, and starting our homestead. We came to the realization that we probably weren’t ready for that just yet. We still like the modern conveniences of “town”, I travel for work and need to be close to the airport, and since I mostly work from home we needed guaranteed high speed internet. BUT, that didn’t mean we weren’t ready to settle down in East Texas…in one of the smallest cities we’ve ever lived in.

We’ve looking at property, homes, sub-divisions…trying to find just the right house in just the right place. About a month ago we found it! We signed the contract a few weeks ago for a semi-custom new home build, and yesterday we approved the plans!

The plans still need to be approved by the city, so we likely won’t break ground for another few weeks, but (fingers crossed) we’ll be in by Thanksgiving. Since it’s just on the other side of town from where we live now, I have the desire to take a picture every day as it progresses. I hope I can keep it up! I won’t post the pictures each day, but I will blog about our journey. This isn’t our first new construction build, but I think it’s our most exciting home purchase.

One of the things we love about our future home is that it backs up to forested property that will never be developed, so looking out our backyard will almost be as good as looking out at our own acreage (without actually having to pay for it or take care of it). To give you an idea of how wooded it is, here is a picture of our lot (or our approximation of where our lot lines are) before clearing.

Our lot for our new house

I’ll tell you more about our lot, the builder, and our home as we go. I could ramble on all night right now! :-)
