30 Days of Thankfulness Day 9

Today I am thankful for my car. She was my birthday present this year (big 4-0!) and I’m enjoying her so much. There’s a little back story that will help explain why I have such an appreciation for her.

I used to drive an Acura Integra. We bought her brand new, had it paid off, and would have happily driven that car until it fell apart. We had her for 12 years, nearly 5 years of which she was our only car. When we moved to Seattle, we moved into the city and I worked in the city, so we sold our other car and easily made it with one car.

I didn’t think that was going to be able to happen. Not have 2 cars? How would we ever survive?

We survived just fine with one car in Seattle, San Diego, and then Houston. We always lived close enough to one of our jobs that we didn’t need two cars. And then I started working from home and I didn’t have a commute at all.

But then, earlier this year, our poor Acura was stolen! It was sad and violating.

Thankfully our insurance settled up efficiently, and we purchased a new-to-us 2006 Toyota RAV4. No that wasn’t my birthday present…we were content to still have one car, and it was just an upgrade to an SUV which we loved.

But then we moved to East Texas and no longer lived in a place where I could walk places if I wanted to (we used to live right across the street from a Target). So we were keeping our eye out for a second car. And while I was away on a business trip (on my birthday no less), my husband found us another RAV4 (2007) for a great price. That weekend, we brought her home.

She’s kinda cute, huh? And yes, I’m a little dorky and I name my cars. Follow me on how mine got her name…

We bought her in April 2012, and her color is Evergreen Metallic. This is about the time The Hunger Games movie came out…Evergreen…sounds like Everdeen. So her name is Kat (short for Katniss). :-)

And now we have twins!

While it was hard to go from no car payments to two car payments this year, I am so thankful that we have the ability to do that; and for the extra freedom I have to run around whenever I need to. Even if she sits in the garage most of the time during the week.

What are you thankful for today?

I love your new Rav4 and the window decal, too! I can totally relate to growing attachments to our vehicles and giving them names! I grew up in a “car” family…my dad used to race sports cars, then he went on to build and restore them for a living, and we always had strong attachments to our vehicles and sometimes gave them names. Just curious, what is Robert’s RAV4’s name?

Day 9: I’m thankful for my in-laws and my husband’s family. They are wonderful, amazing people! We don’t get to see them often enough, but when we do visit them we always have a great time, and I always feel welcome. So glad to have been accepted into my husband’s family!

      So…hubby’s RAV’s name takes a little explaining too…

Our Acura’s name was Lupe (because her very first license plate had “LUP” in it). So when she got stolen :-( and we got the white RAV to replace Lupe, she was “Lupe Jr.” or “Lupe 2″…”two lupe”…”two lu’s”…”Tallulah!”

P.S> It totally looks like you have a GGC window decal on your car!! It was just your copyright :) But, you should consider putting on on your car as advertisement!

I too am thankful our RAVs. They drink a little too much gas, but they are worth it. And I love those 264 horses! I’m going fast!
