With yesterday’s election, I used that day to be thankful for our freedoms and right to vote, so it interrupted my otherwise stream of being thankful for people in my life. Today, I am thankful for my “friends family“. You know, those people you aren’t related to by blood, but who you choose to adopt into your family.
My husband and I have moved…a lot! And most of those moves have been nowhere near our family-by-blood. So it was through the wonderful relationships we formed with friends that gave us the comfort and support of family.
Of all the cities we’ve lived in (7 now), I have to give a special shout out to our friends in Houston. We moved to Houston from San Diego and didn’t know a single person. (That is not uncommon about most of our moves though.) And it was by far the largest city we lived in, and the furthest away from any of my family. We were so thankful to have met the wonderful circle of friends there that truly are like family to us. We shared so many great moments with these fantastic people – including holidays – that just made Houston feel like home despite it’s enormous size!
We don’t live in Houston any more, and we miss them as much as we miss our family-by-blood. I am so thankful for their continued friendship, and know that they will always hold a special place in our hearts.
What are you thankful for today?
